Our missions: To create an awareness that a living lion should be more valuable to people than a dead lion. Lions are not stock, not objects, not produce, not replaceable.
We aim to create awareness that an animal suffers needlessly when not housed and fed properly. If animals are kept by humans, they must reap every benefit humans can give them. Nutrition has a direct effect on the animal's quality of life. Correct care is paramount. We will not rest until this is written in law.
LOVE LIONS ALIVE
is a project aimed at creating awareness and an appreciation for live lions. There is a huge market in South Africa for dead lions or soon to become dead lions. People view these spectacular creatures from the viewpoint of what they will look like as trophies on the wall or as mats on the floor. Their value lies in their demise.
Our message, our call, our plea.... is for people to value lions as vital living creatures. There is an insidious market, a big but largely unnoticed and unchallenged export market of lion body parts for "medicinal" purposes predominantly to the Far East. Along with rhino horn, lions supposedly provide men wonderful powers and is highly sought after especially as Tigers are no longer providing these men with enough "stamina" and "predator" strength due to a shortage of Tiger parts. The South African market is now being tapped for lion parts. The only requirement being people willing to breed and raise lions to maturity and then to "euthanase" them and package their various parts for export. At this point, all our sane readers will shrug and feel at ease, for how can that requirement ever be fulfilled. How is it possible that anyone would or could ever raise a lion and then slaughter it for its body parts? The sad fact is that where there is money there will always be people willing to set aside ethical restraint to do what ever it takes to acquire it. Until the demand is shut down, the supply will spring up to meet the demand. The mentality that lions are just one more species of livestock is prevailing and lions are no longer only at risk of being hunted for trophies, but of being indiscriminately slaughtered in their hundreds.
The Love lions Alive Project affords people the chance to meet lions as individuals and to appreciate their unique characteristics and idiosyncratic temperaments, as well as to watch how extraordinarily affectionate and intelligent these mighty felines are.
